HISTORY
Cneifio Corwen Shears was started from the dreams
and inspirations of a few enthusiastic local sheepshearers and farmers. The
first ever Cneifio Corwen Shears committee was held at the ‘Ddraig Goch
Hotel’ in Corwen, August 1988. This is where officials were elected and
the wheels were put in motion.
12 months later, the committee had worked hard
to raise money, sponsorship and awareness for the show. Medwyn Ellis had been
busy erecting the sheep stand and pens to fit onto the Pavillions’ stage,
this took two weeks to build and is still used today! Finally, the day had arrived,
the first ever ‘Cneifio Corwen Shears’, know one could’ve
wished for a better turn out. Wales television broadcasting filmed the first
show and was later shown on national Television in a 6 part documentary.
Through years of fierce, uncompromising annual
competitions, Cneifio Corwen Shears has become an icon of the shearing and wool
handling industry in Wales. The competition between shearers is fierce and uncompromising.
Many of our great champions have gone home with the ‘Open Fagan Brothers
Challenge Cup’.

For the shearers, the wool handlers and committee, the dreams are still the
same as those pioneers in 1988.
To strive, compete fairly, win your grade and become supreme champion of
CNEIFIO CORWEN SHEARS.
